Our school is organised into four house groups led by an elected Year 6 pupil. The children are grouped across the age range into Everest (green), Nevis (blue), Fuji (yellow), and Snowdon (red). Children can be awarded house points for any aspect of school life and we announce the winning team every Friday. The Houses compete against each other during Sports’ Day. We have house activities during Family Learning Week and work together on other occasions such as our recent Diwali Day celebrations.
The School Council at Welford and Wickham consists of a representative from each year group from Year 1 to Year 5 and the house captains in Year 6. The council meets with Mrs Valentine once every two weeks to express views and make decisions. The School Council decided on names for the House groups and names for our 4 classes. They have recently made decisions about playground games and are frequently involved with showing visitors around the school.
Six Year 5 children are Welford and Wickham’s Worship Team. In September they attended a Day’s course which has given them the confidence to organise and lead assemblies. Recently they presented their own assembly about a sad Teddy Bear who no one loved. Two members of the Worship Team were fortunate to be invited to the inauguration ceremony of the new Bishop of Oxford in Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford.
