‘Where the children come first’

Highclere Class Years 1&2

Welcome to Highclere!

Year 1 and 2 are taught together in Highclere Class. The class teacher is Mrs Valentine. During the week they are also taught by Mrs Myers, Mrs Crosse, and Mrs Hooper. Mr Baker and Miss Clements take them for PE and Mr Edwards (Karlos) takes them for drumming. Mrs Barrett supports us throughout the week, ensuring that all the children are getting the most from the curriculum.

We do phonics, spelling and reading every day and we will continue to have a strong focus on writing this term.

Our Whole school topic this term is Amazing Earth. We will be looking at discoveries beneath our feet, the weather and seasons, and islands around the world (real and imagined).

We have a residential visit planned to The Ridgeway for Year 2 and Year 1 will spend the first day with us exploring the geography around us and our whole school trip to the beach will focus on different geographical features. The end of the term will see us rehearsing and performing in our school production at Arlington Arts.

In Highclere Class we are committed to working hard and always trying our best, striving to be independent learners.

On a warm day at the end of June, Highclere class joined class 1b from Stockcross on a fantastic trip to The Ridgeway. We were dropped off near Ashbury and walked along The Ridgeway to Wayland's Smithy, spotting butterflies, birds and wild flowers along the way. After Wayland's Smithy we followed the track all the way up to Uffington castle where we ate lunch, saw The White Horse and Dragon Hill. Then we had fun trying to fly kites before enjoying an icecream. Year 1 then returned to school and Year 2 settled into Court Hill for our overnight residential. Everyone had a brilliant time.
