‘Where the children come first’

Highclere Class Years 1&2

On a warm day at the end of June, Highclere class joined class 1b from Stockcross on a fantastic trip to The Ridgeway. We were dropped off near Ashbury and walked along The Ridgeway to Wayland's Smithy, spotting butterflies, birds and wild flowers along the way. After Wayland's Smithy we followed the track all the way up to Uffington castle where we ate lunch, saw The White Horse and Dragon Hill. The we had fun trying to fly kites before enjoying an icecream. Year 1 then returned to school and Year 2 settled into Court Hill for our overnight residential. Everyone had a brilliant time.

Welcome to Highclere!

Year 1 and 2 are taught together in Highclere Class. The class teacher is Mrs Valentine. During the week they are also taught by Mr Armstrong, Mrs Myers, Mrs Crosse, Mr Baker and Mr Edwards.

We are fortunate to have Mrs Barrett and Mrs Waterstone supporting us at various times throughout the week, ensuring that all the children are getting the most from the curriculum. We do phonics for reading and spelling every day. Our Whole school topic this term, Terrific Tales, will take us to a world of stories both fictional and real, imaginative and historical. We are looking forward to learning about the history and geography of The Ridgeway prior to our class visit and Year 2 residential. In science we will investigate plants and habitats. Family Learning Week, 'Farm to Fork', will give us an insight into where our food comes from.

The second half of the term will include Sports' Day and The Whole School Production.

In Highclere Class we are committed to working hard and always trying our best, striving to be independent learners.
