‘Where the children come first’

Windsor Class Years 5&6

Welcome to Windsor!

Years 5 and 6 work together under the direction of the class teacher Mrs Kilding. We are also taught PE by Mr Baker and Spanish by Mrs Myers. In addition we have the support and help of Mrs Ibbetson and Ms Chamberlain. Together this team make sure that we have access to a rich and varied curriculum with support and encouragement where necessary.

Every morning we talk, think, investigate and practice our maths skills and understanding. We read both independently and as a class and listen to the poem of the day. As part of our topic web for this term - Amazing Earth- we will be: reading The Tempest by William Shakespeare; creating our own pieces of wave art in the style of Hokusai; designing buildings that can withstand earthquakes; composing and playing our own piece of 'storm' music based on Benjamin Britten;  studying the life-cycles and adaptation of animals to extreme environments and studying geographical phenomena of earthquakes, volcanoes and tsunamis.

In Windsor class we also have opportunities to sing in the school choir, learn to play musical instruments and partake in out-of-school activities such as a local Master Chef competition, a general knowledge quiz and of course school trips. We take on roles of responsibility as House and Sports captains and as members of the school council. We continue to develop as independent learners and thinkers. We make links across the curriculum and ground our learning in real life situations so that it makes sense to us and is relevant to the way we live now as well as preparing us for the future.

Bonfire Maths - we used our knowledge of ratio and proportion, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division and multiples and factors to plan our Bonfire Night party

Class Assembly: we read a story and had a discussion about inclusion. In groups we then created a tableaux showing an everyday activity where someone was excluded. As a class we guessed the reasons and discussed solutions.
