Welcome to Windsor!
Years 5 and 6 work together under the direction of the class teacher Mrs Kilding. We are also taught PE by Mr Baker and Spanish by Mrs Myers. In addition we have the support and help of Mrs Ibbetson and Ms Chamberlain. Together this team make sure that we have access to a rich and varied curriculum with support and encouragement where necessary.
Every morning we talk, think, investigate and practice our maths skills and understanding. We read both independently and as a class and listen to the poem of the day. As part of our topic web for this term - Flights of Fancy- we will be reading Cosmic by Frank Cottrell Boyce, a funny and heartwarming story about a boy who ends up in space and needs to get home. This links with our Science (Earth & Space) where we will have an opportunity to research and write a biography of a famous astronaut and listen and respond to the music of Holst before composing our own pieces. As part of our Topic on Ancient Islam we will be exploring the 'Golden Age': locating Baghdad on a map; understanding the importance of this city at the time and as part of the Silk Road and linking to English as we explore the stories of the Arabian Nights.
In Windsor class we also have opportunities to sing in the school choir (taking part in the Anvil concert this term), learn to play musical instruments and partake in out-of-school activities such as a local Master Chef competition, a general knowledge quiz and of course school trips. We take on roles of responsibility as House and Sports captains and as members of the school council. We continue to develop as independent learners and thinkers. We make links across the curriculum and ground our learning in real life situations so that it makes sense to us and is relevant to the way we live now as well as preparing us for the future.
