Welcome to Windsor!
Years 5 and 6 work together under the direction of the class teachers Mrs Kilding and Mrs Hooper. We are also taught PE by Mr Armstrong and Mr Baker and Spanish by Mrs Myers. In addition we have the support and help of Mrs Ibbetson, and Mrs Chamberlain. Together this team make sure that we have access to a rich and varied curriculum with support and encouragement where necessary.
Every morning we talk, think, investigate and practice our maths skills and understanding. We read both independently and as a class and listen to the poem of the day. As part of our topic web for this term - Terrific Tales - we will be reading all kinds of traditional stories (some with a twist in the tale!) as well as a modern take on a fairy story. We will be writing newspaper reports from different perspectives ; learning and reciting narrative poetry; learning about the changing role of women in society and classifying living things. In art we will study the work of Gustav Klimt and try our hand at gilding. In DT we will design and sew hand puppets in the style of animals from traditional tales. There will be plenty of drama as we prepare and rehearse for the schools federation Watermill production and our own school play at the end of term plus we have Family Learning Week and school sports day to look forward to.
In Windsor class we also have opportunities to sing in the school choir, learn to play musical instruments and partake in out-of-school activities such as a local Master Chef competition, a general knowledge quiz and of course school trips. We take on roles of responsibility as House and Sports captains and as members of the school council. We continue to develop as independent learners and thinkers. We make links across the curriculum and ground our learning in real life situations so that it makes sense to us and is relevant to the way we live now as well as preparing us for the future.
