Welcome to the summer term in Highclere Class.
Our curriculum offer this term is 'Amazing Earth'. In English, we will be reading a range of texts with a particular focus on ‘Stone Girl Bone Girl’, a book all about Mary Anning and ‘Gregory Cool’ a story about a boy who moves to a new country and learns to adjust and fall in love with his new surroundings. We will be learning about the lifecycle of butterflies and observing caterpillars metamorphosing into Painted Lady butterflies before setting them free in our garden.
At Welford & Wickham, Year 1 & 2 are taught together in Highclere Class. The class teacher is Mrs Myers. After May half term, Mrs Salisbury returns from maternity leave to become the class teacher. During the week they are also taught by Mrs Anderson, Mrs Kilding and Mrs Valentine so that they can have specialist subject teaching for science, art and music. Mrs Barrett and Mrs Nutley support us throughout the week, ensuring that all the children are getting the most from the curriculum.
Friday afternoons are Scouting afternoons. All children take part in Squirrels, Beavers or Cubs (depending upon age) where they learn key life skills and experience a wealth of enrichment opportunities. It is also a lot of fun!! Have a look at the Scouts page on the website to see what we’ve been doing.
For more detailed information on all the subjects that are taught at Welford & Wickham, please click on the 'Key Information' option at the top of this page and choose: curriculum, implementation and then the subject.
The Friends of Welford
Every year the PTFA very kindly gives us some money to spend on resources for the classroom. This money is essential to help us buy all those "extra" bits and bobs that really help the children to engage in their learning and to bring that learning to life. The fundraising ideas are always inventive and great fun for all involved.
