Welcome to Highclere!
Year 1 and 2 are taught together in Highclere Class. The class teacher is Mrs Valentine. During the week they are also taught by Mrs Myers, Mrs Kilding, Mr Waller, Mrs Crosse and Mr Baker. Mrs Barrett support us throughout the week, ensuring that all the children are getting the most from the curriculum. For the second half of the term we are joined by student teacher Miss Storey.
We do phonics, spelling, reading and maths every day, with a wide variety of afternoon lessons including French, music, art, topic, science, RE and PSHE. We hope to make use of our local outdoor environment with regular walks to the woods to explore.
Our Whole school topic this term is Explorers and Invaders and we will look at pirates as well as true explorers. We will visit the Historic Dockyard in Portsmouth to look onboard a ship and take part in a pirate workshop. We will read stories about the Pilgrim Fathers and their exploration of the New World.
This term we will continue to enjoy visits from the mobile library van and welcome local residents for coffee mornings at the same time.
We will visit our local churches to celebrate Harvest, take part in Remembrance, learn about Christingle and then at the end of term perform our own Nativity Play.
In Highclere Class we are committed to working hard and always trying our best, striving to be independent learners.
