‘Where the children come first’

Welcome to Warwick!

 

Warwick class teacher is Mrs Crosse helped by Mrs Butler and Mrs Holmes.

 

The children in our care will each have had unique experiences of and responses to the events of 2020. This has been a year of significant world events, disrupting and changing the ways of life of people across the globe. 

Our recovery curriculum will support the children in our school community to re-connect with each other and re-engage with school life. It has been devised for a whole school to work together using a single text to support them as they return to school. 

We will be using ‘Here We Are’ by Oliver Jeffers. It builds a personalised sequence of work providing a powerful vehicle for children to reflect on and make sense of the world we are all living in. The words and pictures work together to help children to understand their place in the world and to move forward together in a positive and constructive way. 

 

Each day we have an English and Maths focussed carpet time followed by small group activities. We also have a fun Phonics group session. We work with the teacher or teaching assistant as well as independently to give us time to develop and deepen our learning. In the afternoon we concentrate on developing other areas of learning such as R.E, PSHE, Geography, P.E, Music and Science. Every day we have the opportunity for independent learning where we plan our own time and use our interests to explore and apply our skills that we have learnt.  We will develop our speaking and listening skills by explaining what we have been doing and thinking about ways to continue to develop and adapt our ideas further.  We learn through play and have lots of fun in the process! 

 

After our recovery curriculum we will be moving on to look at Powerful People, these include real life superheroes such as the emergency services and other people who work in key occupations to help others.
