‘Where the children come first’

Windsor Class Years 5&6

Welcome to Windsor!

Welcome to the summer term in Windsor Class.

Our curriculum offer this term is 'Amazing Earth'. In English, we will be heading back in time to study a great Shakespearian work: The Tempest. A story of storms and magic, friendship and betrayal. Some of you may even remember the whole school production of this play that we performed a few years ago. As scientists we will be researching the work of Charles Darwin and his theory of evolution as well as looking at how organisms adapt over time to live in extreme conditions. We will learn about the 'Great Wave', probably the most famous work of Japanese artist Hokusai, where the volcanic Mount Fuji features in the background. We will examine the relationship between mountains, volcanoes and earthquakes and understand what it might be like to live under extreme earth conditions. As well as the academic curriculum, we will of course be enjoying the sunshine with sports days, school trips, and end-of-year celebrations. Last, but not least, we will once again be able to perform as a whole school at the Arlington Centre for our end of year production - watch this space!

At Welford & Wickham, Year 5 & 6 are taught together in Windsor Class. The class teacher is Mrs Kilding. During the week they are also taught by Mrs Phillpot, Mr Waller, Mrs Myers and Mrs Valentine so that they can have specialist subject teaching for art, PE, computing, languages and music. Mrs Miller supports us throughout the week, ensuring that all the children are getting the most from the curriculum.

Friday afternoons are Scouting afternoons. All children take part in Squirrels, Beavers or Cubs (depening upon age) where they learn key life skills and experience a wealth of enrichment opportunities. It is also a lot of fun!!

At the top of the school, we take on roles of responsibility as House and Sports captains, members of the school council and as Anti Bullying Ambassadors. We continue to develop as independent learners and thinkers. We make links across the curriculum and ground our learning in real life situations so that it makes sense to us and is relevant to the way we live now as well as preparing us for the future.

For more detailed information on all the subjects that are taught at Welford & Wickham, please click on the 'Key Information' option at the top of this page and choose: curriculum, implementation and then the subject.

Autumn 2021 - Explorers and Invaders

The Friends of Welford

Every year the PTFA very kindly gives us some money to spend on resources for the classroom. This money is essential to help us buy all those "extra" bits and bobs that really help the children to engage in their learning and to bring that learning to life. The fundraising ideas are always inventive and great fun for all involved.
