Welcome to Windsor!
Years 5 and 6 work together under the direction of the class teacher Mrs Kilding. We are also taught PE by Mr Baker, Modern Foreign Languages and PSHE by Mrs Myers, Music by Mrs Valentine and Topic and Computing by Mr Waller. In addition, we have the support and help of Mrs Miller. Together this team make sure that we have access to a rich and varied curriculum with support and encouragement where necessary.
Every morning we talk, think, investigate and practice our maths skills and understanding. We read both independently and as a class and listen to the poem of the day. As part of our topic web for this term - Flights of Fancy - we will be reading Sky Hawk by Gill Lewis, a moving book about friendship and preservation of Ospreys, set in the Highlands of Scotland. As a class reader we will enjoy Cosmic by Frank Cottrell Boyce. Our History and Geography will focus on abcient and modern Greece . We will study forces in science, before looking at human development and lifecycles. We also have Family Learning Week to look forward to and celebrations to mark 75 years since VE day.
In Windsor class we also have opportunities to sing in the school choir, learn to play musical instruments and partake in out-of-school activities such as a local Master Chef competition, a general knowledge quiz and of course school trips. We take on roles of responsibility as House and Sports captains and as members of the school council. We continue to develop as independent learners and thinkers. We make links across the curriculum and ground our learning in real life situations so that it makes sense to us and is relevant to the way we live now as well as preparing us for the future.
