Welcome to Windsor!
Years 5 and 6 work together under the direction of the class teacher Mrs Kilding. We are also taught PE by Mr Baker, Modern Foreign Languages by Mrs Myers, Music by Mrs Valentine and Topic and Computing by Mr Waller. In addition, we have the support and help of Mrs Miller. In the second part of autumn term we will welcome Mrs. Edwards, student teacher. Together this team make sure that we have access to a rich and varied curriculum with support and encouragement where necessary.
Every morning we talk, think, investigate and practice our maths skills and understanding. We read both independently and as a class and listen to the poem of the day. As part of our topic web for this term - Explorers and Invaders - we will be reading Rose Blanche by Roberto Innocenti and Ian McEwan, a moving book about War as seen through a child's eyes. As a class reader we will enjoy Letters from the Lighthouse by Emma Carroll. Linked to this we will study WWII, comparing the experiences of children in Germany and the UK. We will look at the human body in science, investigating the circulatory system. In the second half of autumn we will turn our attention to Earth and Space and read about the important role played by four black women in the Space Race. We also look forward to our school trip and, of course, the Christmas activities.
In Windsor class we also have opportunities to sing in the school choir, learn to play musical instruments and partake in out-of-school activities such as a local Master Chef competition, a general knowledge quiz and of course school trips. We take on roles of responsibility as House and Sports captains and as members of the school council. We continue to develop as independent learners and thinkers. We make links across the curriculum and ground our learning in real life situations so that it makes sense to us and is relevant to the way we live now as well as preparing us for the future.
